What Is the Mobility Aids Grant Scheme?

The Mobility Aids Grant Scheme provides financial assistance for small-scale modifications to improve home accessibility. It is intended to help people who are finding it difficult to carry out everyday activities, such as bathing or navigating stairs.

The scheme is administered by local authorities and supports works such as:

• Installing grab rails
• Converting a bath to an accessible shower
• Adding ramps
• Installing a stair-lift
• Fitting a fixed track hoist system

The grant may also cover other minor works deemed necessary by your local authority.

What Has Changed in 2025?

As of 1 December 2025, the scheme has been updated to provide greater support:

• The maximum grant has increased from €6,000 to €8,000
• The household income threshold to qualify has increased from €30,000 to €37,500
• More generous income disregards are now applied when calculating eligibility

These changes were introduced under the Housing (Adaptation Grants for Older People and People with a Disability) Regulations 2025.
